RAIN FORCES THE POSTPONEMENT OF OPENING DAY

Heavy overnight rain and storms have saturated the newly renovated Onawa Racing and Events Complex (OREC) and has forced the postponement of the 2018 opening. “Being a new facility and with over 1-1/2″ of rain in the last few hours; the pits are soggy in many areas and the facility is simply too wet to open” said Track Manager Ron Conner. “We are much better off waiting until next Friday and Saturday and having the opportunity to open under better conditions” he mentioned.

Next Friday and Saturday (June 8 & 9) will now serve as the opening days at the facility. Friday will be the first “Fun Night” with gates opening at 5 PM, then Saturday will be the “1st annual Fan and Racer Appreciation” event featuring a special of only $10 to race or watch! Gates open Saturday, June 9 at 10 AM

With last nights rains, it should be noted the newly added drainage to the pits (including pumps) did pretty good and has now given the management additional ideas to better that process of moving water as we move forward. “Its a learning process, said Scott Gardner, I’m very confident this facility won’t be dealing with these types of issues moving forward as they are very aggressive in dealing with challenges and will take this additional steps in correcting drainage” he continued.

OREC appreciates everyone’s enthusiasm for opening and thanks everyone for their understanding and truly hopes to see everyone next Friday and/or Saturday as the 2018 season gets underway.
