Mother Nature hasn’t been kind concerning her forces in Onawa, Iowa. In fact, some might suggest she has been downright cruel. The ground conditions at the Onawa Racing and Events Center have been challenging for the various crews to make construction progress as planned.
“As of today, Monday, April 16th we have made the decision to postpone the installation of the timing system by Accutime technicians, as we simply won’t be able to meet that deadline for having certain things ready including the scoreboards mounted before that date,” said General Manager Ron Conner. “While we’re confident we will get opened in May for racing, it’s pretty clear we won’t make the tentative opening dates of May 5 or 12 either, he continued.
“The best scenario that can happen now is some good drying weather conditions and obviously no more snow; as we need to be able to get 50,000-pound concrete trucks on the property without sinking them to their axles and many other sub-contractors have work to get done,” said Conner.
As progress continues to be made and final plans are determined for the actual opening date, we will release those details.
