No one can say it has been easy or that the facility is 100% completed but racing will take place this Saturday, June 2 at the Onawa Racing and Events Complex, Onawa, IA. The plan is to do test-n-tune/fun runs and hopefully get more rubber on the virgin race surface.

“We really could use several more days for track prep on this new surface, said Consultant Scott Gardner, however we like many others just want to get some action going on the track” he continued. The gates will open Saturday at 10 AM with racing underway at 11 AM and goes throughout much of the afternoon. “Essentially for a lack of a better term; this is a no-prep surface with some prep” said Gardner as he explained the track conditions won’t be by any means “seasoned” like a track that has been previously raced on. The management team is spending countless hours preparing the surface the best they can, but we all realize what the limitations are that are involved. “Sure we could wait another week or month and have one of the best surfaces in the country, but we need to just get opened” concluded Gardner.

Racers and pit crew should enter off of K45 into the pit area. Spectators need to enter the general parking lot at the main entrance of the facility at the corner K45 and 248th Street (see map below). Once parked in the lot, spectators should enter the Events Center to purchase their event pass (concessions and bathrooms are located in Events Center) and then proceed into the race track seating or pit area. Unique to mostly drag racing facilities, OREC fans will have access to the pit area to see the race cars up close and personal.

OREC will be open for the first Friday Fun Night event, the following Friday, June 8 and then on Saturday, June 9 will be the “Fan and Racer Appreciation” event with a race or watch special for only $10!
